Dr. Carlene MacMillan takes a collaborative and holistic approach to practicing psychiatry that goes beyond medication management. She graduated from Harvard College magna cum laude with highest honors in psychology, and received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School. Dr. MacMillan completed both an adult psychiatry residency and a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital/McLean Hospital training programs. Before relocating to New York, she worked at McLean Hospital as an inpatient attending on the Trauma and Dissociative Unit and as the psychiatrist for an outpatient DBT program for adolescents. She was elected as a representative from Massachusetts to the Assembly of the American Psychiatric Association. Dr. MacMillan’s training as a board-certified child psychiatrist informs her work with families and deepens her ability to help patients at developmental stages across the life span. Her primary therapeutic modality is Mentalization-Based Therapy for individuals and families. She incorporates DBT and other cognitive behavioral therapies as needed. In addition to her work on the PACT team, Dr. MacMillan maintains a private practice for adults and children and is involved in patient education and advocacy on both national and local levels.
